Oh HI! I’m back in the first person, and you know this is a serious topic I’m about to cover. By now, I’m sure a lot of you have seen Chris Brown’s HIGHLY offensive costume choice this year.
The driving force that led me to type this post was seeing a young Arab fan of Chris Brown tweet, that he was crying because Chris Brown thinks all Arabs are terrorists. What was Rihanna thinking even condoning such a racist act of f*ckery? I’ve been a fan of Rihanna since 2005, and a HUGE supporter, but what gives girl? I would have made him change, or turned him away from my party. You slapped your large Arab fan base in the face, by allowing this.
This costume stirs the pot, that is already bubbling over with Islamophobia. I’m sure he was doing this for shock value, and FAILED in my humble opinion. He thinks highly of himself and believes he’s this Andy Warhol-esque, Avant Garde, artistic type. I looked on in horror all day as I saw people defending his behavior and called people like myself, who is a voice against racism towards all types of people, “haters”.
Boy, have a seat, you’re about to be schooled. After September 11th, 2001, the incidences of hate crimes towards Arabs/Muslims increased greatly. You want proof? Here’s a taste VIA civilrights.org : “In January 2009, Memphis store clerk Mohammed Al Hadi was murdered by an unknown assailant who calmly took aim and then fired, as if ‘he has some vendetta.’ On the same day, at another grocery story nearby, another clerk of Middle Eastern descent was also murdered”. You can further educate yourself on this matter by going to this link:
I live in New York City, which is suppose to one of the most progressive cities in the world. That did not stop organizations from hanging racist subway/bus avertisements such as this:
Are you satisfied with yourself Chris Brown? I don’t understand on how people can be so cruel and ignorant. Of course, I will be labelled a “hater” by your fan base. That will never stop me from doing the right thing. I hope I at least touched one reader into helping racist acts like this stop.
